What are nurse prescribing CPD modules?
According to the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), post-registration education and practice (Prep) is a set of standards and guidance which is designed to help nurses provide a high standard of practice and care. Prep helps nurses keep up-to-date with new developments in practice and encourages them to think and reflect for themselves.
Prep provides the framework for nursing continuing professional development (CPD).
The Prep (CPD) standard
- Undertake at least 35 hours of learning activity relevent to practice during the three years prior to renewal of registration.
- Maintain a personal professional profile of learning activities.
- Comply with any request from the NMC to audit how requirements have been met.
CPD requirements
NMC guidance states that CPD activity should be recorded along the following lines:
- Nature of learning activity
- Date taken place
- Description of the learning activity
- How many hours the activity took
- When and how the activity took place
- Outcome of the learning activity - how the activity informed and influenced practice
